Frozen Shoulder
Frozen shoulder, also known as adhesive capsulitis, is a condition characterized by stiffness and pain in your shoulder joint. Signs and symptoms typically begin gradually, worsen over time and then resolve.
Frozen Shoulder & Shoulder Pain
The arm is attached to the upper body by muscles. The joint itself is very shallow, this gives enormous flexibility to the arm. However this is gained at the expense of strength and stability. Therefore the soft tissues of the shoulder have to cope with a lot of mechanical stress and this can often lead to a range of mechanical problems.
If the shoulder tendons become strained they can easily become rigid and painful. Movement becomes less and a frozen shoulder develops.
Diagnosis of the precise area of strain is important so that accurate treatment may be given.
Frozen Shoulder Treatment
Treatment for frozen or painful shoulder may be either acupuncture or low level laser.
With acupuncture the very fine needles are inserted in and around the painful area and left in place for up to twenty minutes. In some more severe cases a mild electric current is used through the needles themselves. The patient only feels a very slight tingling sensation.
With laser therapy the strength of the laser is low and the patient feels nothing whatsoever. A narrow beam of low light, not visible to the eye, penetrates the painful area and relieves tenderness and pain. With all methods several weekly treatments may be required.
